Remember that time when people blogged?! I don't know hardly anyone who does anymore, including myself, and it makes me sad. I would like to get back into it. It was such a great and quick way to document the milestones in our life!
This is my first update. I'm currently uploading all the pictures from my camera (which I have to do every month or so b/c it fills up with thousands of pictures in about 3-4 weeks. What?? My kids are the cutest ;) )
so this will be a picture-less post for now!
I wanted to update on Quinn as I know some of our family far away isn't up to speed.
Tomorrow our battles with insurance will be put to the test. Quinn's had an appointment for over 6 months to begin testing to see if he is in fact on the Autism Spectrum. The most recent development is that our insurance WILL cover the testing...as long as he doesn't end up falling anywhere on the spectrum. If he does they will take back what they paid and deny the claim and it will fall back to us to pay the $3500+ the testing costs. (That's right, if the Autism testing shows he is Autistic, they won't pay for it. Talk about messed up!) Tomorrow is our first appointment of 3, the second being an 8 hour testing session on Quinn. If tomorrow it looks like it won't be worth it or we won't get the answers we need, I will refuse to go forth with the other testing. Whatever ends up happening is fine because I believe that Quinn is 100% the way he was intended to be. He's hands down the funniest, sweetest, and coolest kid in existence.
At this point in time Matt and I do not believe that Quinn is Autistic. And it's not just a parents blind eye to it. If anything I think we're overly critical as this is the field we've both worked in for so long. It is believed that Quinn is Obsessive Compulsive, which we do believe. He likes to have things a certain way, etc., to an extreme that other kids don't. He likes to always have socks on for example, and the order we do things when we put him to bed is VERY important to him, etc. If they come back to us with a diagnosis of Autism, I wouldn't believe it anyway. In the last two months Quinn has made HUGE strides and huge changes. He's been a good talker for a long time, but now he's making connections between things and he's so compassionate and shows so much empathy. Things that do not happen on the spectrum. He recognizes when people are sad or upset and he tries to make them feel better. He is quick to apologize when he's upset or hurt someone, etc. He's very tender hearted.
At tomorrow's meeting I will see what else the testing can diagnose. If it can ONLY diagnose Autism Spectrum and nothing else we will likely not have him go through with it. It's an entire day of testing which is a lot for a 2 year old to go through and I don't want a misdiagnosis slapped on him which I truly believes happens WAY too often, at least here. We have been working hard with him and I think it's showing, he's doing SO good. He's still my little buddy and my little shadow. He usually prefers I be the one to do everything for him and with him which is super exhausting but Matt sure tries to get in there! So, I will try to keep you all posted on what we find out! I'm sad we have to even go down this road, I never thought we would do this with our own little boy, but I know it will be ok because he's SO insanely awesome. ;)
I guess I should update on Miss P as well! She's fantastic as always! I need to register her for kindergarten, it's taking longer because we have to change her school from the one she would normally go to. She isn't going to go to the one we are in the boundaries for. I also put her into the lottery for some of the charter schools around here. I am hoping she'll get into one of those. Kindergarten will be interesting for sure. She's SO excited to go "finally". 3 years in preschool is a long time! She's currently a better reader than most 2nd-3rd graders and a better speller than most adults, haha! We haven't found much she can't read yet, she can read chapter books and can sound out just about any word we've put in front of her. She's most excited to learn Science in school and is hoping that Kindergarten is full of science projects...she may be a tad disappointed! ;) She's in her 5th session of ballet and is stinking cute as all get out! Her recital this year is at the end of May and I'm SO excited. I have an insanely cute video I will upload of her practicing her dance.
Both kids are also starting swimming lessons on Saturdays to get ready for Roaring Springs this summer! Yay! I think that's about it for this quick update. I will do pictures later!!
