Paiton Update

Paiton had an appointment today to do a recheck of her urinary infection. Her doctor said that she needs to have an ultrasound to check her bladder and ureters. They want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the valves and that she isn't having reflux which can cause infections. Dr. Zieba said there is a 1/3 chance that she will have it, which means a 2/3 chance she won't. If she does have it there are 5 levels of severity, levels 1-3 the child usually outgrows. She would just have to be on antibiotics for about a year to prevent any infections and then would have to have another ultrasound at the end of that time to see if it has corrected itself. Levels 4 and 5 usually require surgery, but are very rare.
The doctor didn't do a catheter urine test today as she was going to because Paiton will have to have another one on when they do the test. She said it was too invasive and unnecessary trauma since she will be having another soon so luckily we got to skip that today.
So hopefully she will not have a problem at all, but if we don't check and she does have it, it can cause bad damage to her kidneys. So of course we'll check!
This poor girl, I tell ya! Please keep her in your thoughts! Our appointment is Wednesday morning at 10 am and of course we're hoping it's all fine!

Mr. Locke - Teacher Extraordinaire

I have very exciting news about my awesome hubby!! As you all know he is a Special Ed teacher at a middle school here in Nampa. He has the Emotional Disturbance section of Special Ed. Last month he applied for a grant to help pay for some supplies for an instructional tool that he uses in his class.
Well he won it!! I am so proud of him! He definitely deserves it. No one knows how hard he works and how much he cares about his students and it was well deserved! They even presented him with a big check!! Woohoo!!

Thanksgiving!

First, here are some pictures leading up to Thanksgiving.
We stil hadn't put away all of Paiton's birthday toys since we had been so busy and sick! Earlier this week Paiton and I went downstairs and starting sorting through all her stuff and setting up her play room!

Earlier this week Cadon made a gingerbread house and decorated it! What a big boy!

On Wednesday Cadon came and had a slumber party at our house!! We, of course, spoiled him! We took him to Pizza Hut for dinner, then we went to Target and Uncle Matt let him pick out some Matchbox cars and cookie dough to make. Then we came home to bake his cookies and watch his movie - Merry Madagascar! We only had a few tears of missing Daddy and Nana and then he was out for the night!! Paiton had a lot of fun playing with her cousin!!

Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning we got up and watched the Macy's parade! Cadon was happy to see Spiderman!
Then the babies took a bath together which was....entertaining! I didn't think about Cadon being a 3 year old boy and Pai being a 1 year old girl and the questions Cadon might have...good times! :)
Then we headed over to my Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner! We made all the usuals and it was delicious! I managed to not get any pictures of our dinner, bummer!

{Paiton}
Obviously I am very thankful for my beautiful and perfect little girl. She is the absolute best thing in my life and I don't know what I'd do without her. She is the greatest and everyday I am thankful that she is so happy and healthy.

{Matt}
I am thankful for my husband who loves and supports me! He is funny and cracks me up at least once a day. :) He is a hard worker and he is very devoted to his job. He loves Paiton more than anything and I love that.

{My Family}
I have the best family ever, hands down. My parents, siblings, nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are so great!! We have so much fun with them and love them so much. I would be so sad and lonely if I didn't have them!!

{My BFF!}
I am thankful for my best friend, Kim, and her son Cohen! Paiton and I love to hang out with them. I love her because she and I have so much in common and are in the exact same spot in our lives. I can talk with her about anything and I would go crazy if I didn't have her!!

I am thankful that we have jobs in this economy and that we have a house to live in. I am thankful that I can stay home with Paiton during the day so that she doesn't have to go to daycare. I couldn't stand to be away from her.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We did!!

Thanksgiving's A Coming!

I need to get back into the habit of updating this more!
As most of you know my Grandpa Riggs had surgery on the 16th to remove a kidney. He got to come home on Saturday and is doing better and better every day! He has been up and moving around and starting to eat more. We have all been going to visit him and keep him and Grandma company (and sane) while he recovers!
To back up, last Thursday we did our little family Thanksgiving. It was delicious! We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and my mom's giant pumpkin rolls that I made for the first time. Yumm!!
Paiton has learned that opening cupboards and getting into stuff is FUN!
She is also very busy playing with all her toys. Can you find the baby?
Paiton is doing MUCH better! We haven't even had time to go through all her birthday toys yet! We have been very busy all being sick. Hopefully this weekend we can do that! We have to get her ball pit all set up so she can play in it!

On Sunday night Uncle Brent got here to help Grandma and Grandpa. We went to see him yesterday! He is so much fun, we love when we get to hang out with him! Paiton especially loved him! She got him reading her books in no time!

We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! This afternoon Paiton and I are going to Matt's school to have Thanksgiving lunch with his class and tonight we are having Thanksgiving with some of our friends! Then Thursday is the real thing! Woohoo!

Our first ER visit

Hi all. Here is a much needed update! We have had a CrAzY week this week at our house!!
We did a little grocery shopping:
Went out to dinner with everyone and got Paiton all bundled up because it was COLD!
And went shopping with Aunt Lori and Aunt Lisa!
Aunt Lori bought Paiton this tiny baby doll which Paiton LOVES! She immediately started giving it hugs and loves and kissing it! It was too cute. It amazes me that she knows to do that with babies! Makes me feel like we did a good job loving on her and she knows that's what babies deserve!!
On Tuesday Paiton had her one year check up. Monday night she hardly slept at all. She screamed from about 7:30 until 4:30 am. Then she slept for a couple hours and was back up and crabby again.
At her check up they looked at her ears and said they were fine but that she is getting her top two eye teeth in and that's probably what was causing the crying!

She then got 4 shots!! Poor girl!
After that we went and hung out at Aunt Lisa's house to say goodbye to Aunt Lori who had to go back home! Thanks for coming to visit Aunt Lori! We had SOOO much fun!
That night Paiton got worse and had a fever of 101-102. I kept giving her Tylenol and Motrin and couldn't get it to come down. We had another rough night of very little sleep.
I called the nurse and she said it was probably just from her shots and that she would be better in the morning. Well, she wasn't! Her fever hovered around 103 all day and I couldn't get it to come down even though she had had Tylenol and Motrin consistently for almost 24 hours. She wouldn't let me put her down and just was very drowsy laying on me and not eating or drinking so we started getting really worried! I called her doctor but they didn't call me back so I took her to the ER.

We spent over 3 hours in the ER and most of Paiton looked like this:
They took her temp and it was 101.7. So it had come down a little but still fairly high. The doctor heard her bad chest congestion and ordered a chest x-ray, a flu swab, and a catheter to test her urine.
The flu swab and catheter were awful and poor Paiton was such a trooper. She cried but once I held her she was better. I had to help hold her down which was AWFUL but I think she felt better that I was there. I hope!
The flu test came back negative and the x ray looked good. However the urine test showed that she has an infection. :( I asked the doctor how that could happen because I am always VERY careful about wiping her. He said baby girls just get them really easily and that it was probably actually from a bath or a bubble bath. So we won't be doing bubble baths any time soon! Poor baby! He gave her antibiotics for the urine infection but said there wasn't anything they could do about her respiratory infection.
Hopefully she starts feeling better soon! She seems to be a little better today, just exhausted.

What do one year olds do?

This will be the last blog entry in the book I am making for Paiton. As long as I keep up the blog I will print one each year of her life. The first year is already puts together and just needs to be sent to printing and it will be a gift to her that she can continue to look at forever!

Here are some things my one year old can do now:

-When I get her dressed she loves to help put on her socks. When she sees them she will hold her foot up to put the sock on, then the other one. So helpful! It's very cute.
-She is a big talker. Here are the words she can say: Maya, more, hi, Abba, Ry Ry (Ryan), and Hello! She loves to say Hello! to anyone we pass in the store or anywhere else. We call her the little Walmart greeter :)
-She is such a good crawler now, very speedy! However I don't think it will last long! She got a stroller to push for her birthday from Aunt Lori and she really loves to walk and push it around.
-If you say "Show me your teeth" she will do a big toothy grin to show you where her teeth are.
-If you ask her where your nose is she will point to it. This baby is very smart!
-One of her favorite things to do is make one of her toys, Violet the dog, play music while she reads her books. She will push the paw to make it play, then look at her books until the music stops and she has to push it again.
-One of her toys that plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star STILL makes her cry. I have posted this a few times since she was about 5 months old and it hasn't changed!
-When I open the back door of the car to get her out she is always waving really big at me and is very happy to see me!! It melts my heart every time!
-She knows the word "jump" and if you say jump she will bend her knees and want you to lift her up like she is jumping. It's a very fun game!
-She loves to snap. If you snap and show her she will try very hard to copy.
-She LOVES french fries. We can't order them anymore if we don't want her to eat them because once she sees them, that's all she wants to eat. She will refuse anything else you offer!! Silly girl!
-She also loves graham cracker Goldfish! If she sees them on the counter while she is eating she will point at them and want some!

We have the best little girl in the world and I just don't know how we got so lucky!
