Remember when - My biggest concern in life was what to do that weekend?
Remember when - I didn't have to worry about doing laundry, cooking dinner, cleaning up messes I didn't make?
Remember when - I didn't have a baby to plan my day around?
Remember when - I didn't have to say "Paiton please stop that" 234,643,324 times a day?
Remember when - I didn't have to force someone to go to sleep, and I could sleep when and as long as I wanted?
Remember when - If I didn't feel good I could curl up in bed and rest and not move until I felt better?
Remember when - My house was quiet, calm, and there wasn't fit throwing and screaming?
Remember when - All my money didn't go towards diapers, baby food, toys, hospital bills and clothes that will be outgrown in 7 minutes?
And....
Remember when - My biggest concern in life truly meant nothing?
Remember when - I didn't have to worry about the things that all good mothers worry about?
Remember when - I didn't have a baby to play with all day long, to shop with, and tell all my secrets to?
Remember when - I didn't have a strong willed child who has a GREAT mind of her own,
and is brilliant enough to find ways to get into trouble, even when I think it's impossible!
Remember when - I went to bed alone, and didn't wake up to someone touching my face, giving me big, juicy kisses, or pushing me off the bed with her teeny tiny feet?
Remember when - I didn't feel good, and there was no silly one year old to do goofy things and make her "cheese face" at me to make me smile?
Remember when - My house was too quiet and there was no belly laughter of a toddler or the sound of her little words and angelic voice?
Remember when - All of my money went to things far less important, and all of it was a waste, because everything meant so much less until this baby girl came into my life?
We had a hard day today. As we have a lot lately. Paiton slept a total of 12 minutes, I counted. That left me zero time to work, which means I didn't get stuff done I should have. Which means my paycheck will be sad, and so will we.
Paiton is not the easiest baby, she has a temper, a strong personality, and she wants to do what she wants to do just as much as I want her to do what I want her to do. It was one of those days where when I saw Matt I cried and swore to never have another child because I can't even handle this one. Too many times today I had to step away from Paiton and take a breath. Too many times to do I thought "remember when...?" Too many times I didn't appreciate her.
Like Matt said, she is a baby, and she will have good days and bad days. Sure, the bad days are bad, but there are still bright moments. I didn't get an ounce of work in. Nothing. Maybe if I had help with her during the day, but I don't. It's her and I. She is my love, my everything. But today was a bad day.
Tomorrow, let's be better. Let's be more patient, more willing to let it go when she presses a button on the computer that loses all the work I did, when she throws her cup and it spills all over the floor, when she screams and throws a fit over nothing, and when she refuses to take a nap and does everything in her power to keep herself awake. I will cherish those moments, and stay up all night making up the work I missed out on during the day.

Walking!
Here is a video of the second time Paiton ever took steps! I had to hold it myself and then drop it to catch her, haha. But you can see a couple little steps!
Getting caught up...
I have been a terrible blogger lately! I don't know why! Not too much has been going on over here. Just the same old - work, work, work! Matt is busy at school, as always! He is also now playing tennis twice a week at River City Racquet Club, which we joined. That will be good in the summer because they have a pool I can take Paiton too! We have Roaring Springs passes again, but if there are days we don't have time to go all the way out there, we can at least go play in the pool!
I am still busy chasing a one year old while trying to work all day! It is exhausting! I remember how easy I thought working from home would be and it makes me laugh, it is much harder than working out of the home! I don't think you know that until you try it though! But I wouldn't change it for anything because there is no way I could part with Paiton on a daily basis! As my mom says, we're addicted to each other! :)

Paiton was giving her baby loves in the car. So sweet!
I have mostly been doing videos of her lately. Which I have tried uploading several times and it just isn't working for some reason. I never had problems in the past. I will try again and see what happens.
Paiton is still practicing her walking! Her record now is 8 little steps! She won't walk unless we are trying to get her to, like bribing her with a toy or her binky! But she is doing great and once she gets a little more steady on her feet I don't think we'll see much of her, she'll be too busy running around!
Of course I have some funny Paiton-isms to share!
~As I am sure most of you know or could have guessed, Cadon turns everything he plays with into a gun. He is constantly shooting monsters (like "Pete", the monster he says lives in Mom's house). Well one night when we were over there Paiton picked up Cadon's golf club gun and started saying "Boom Boom!" I thought Grrrreat. Now my one year old GIRL is shooting fake guns! Now she points her finger and says "Boom Boom!" It is a crack up, I have to admit. Like her Nana said, When she is constantly playing with her boy cousins, she's going to do things like that, just like I did!
~Cameron and I love the musical Bye Bye Birdie. We like to sing the song to it too. Apparently we have been singing it quite a lot because one night Paiton sang from her high chair "Bye Bye Bird!" It was hilarious! Mom, Cami, and I were cracking up! She kept doing it. I have a video of it I'll try to get up. I love when she sings!
~Cami is always desperately trying to get Paiton to say Titi. Paiton refuses, I think because she knows it bothers Cameron and she LOVES to annoy her. Well just to spite her Titi one day Rykley said "Hi Paiton!" and Paiton replied "Hi Rykley!" There were many witnesses to this and now we won't let Cami forget it!
~As I have shared many times before Paiton is SUCH a girly girl. The other day she kept brushing her hair out of her eyes. Then she found one of her pony tail holders on the floor and brought it over to me and put it on her head, like she wanted me to put it in. So I put her hair in a pony tail and she was happy! She also likes to bring us headbands to put on her. Then she will smile and turn her head slowly like she is showing off and she will wait for us to say "You're so pretty!" Then she just grins! Silly girl!
~The other day I realized I should probably be letting her try to feed herself. So I put some food on her fork and handed it to her, thinking it would be messy and take awhile for her to figure out. Nope. She stuck that fork right in her mouth and gave it back to me to put more food on! Smarty pants!
~She does this really, really funny thing now that Matt taught her. We will say "Paiton, does your belly talk?" and she will lift up her shirt and squeeze her tummy while we make it talk by saying "I'm hungry!" It's funny. I also have a video of that I will try to get on!
Lastly, I have tried desperately to get Thank You cards out for Christmas, but just have had no time to get it done. So here it is - THANK YOU EVERYONE!! We had a wonderful Christmas and each of us was spoiled rotten, especially Paiton! Please accept this as a thank you from the Locke family, we really do appreciate all that everyone did and does for us!

3 STEPS!!!!!
At 3:20 pm today, Tuesday January 26, 2010, Paiton took her first REAL steps! I was trying to get her to walk to me and she took 3 quick little running steps before diving to me! After that she took 2 more, slower steps, before getting wobbly and sitting down!!

A Chilly Day At The Park
On Wednesday we decided that we needed to get out of the house! After Matt got home from work we bundled up Paiton and headed to the park. When we were talking about going it was actually nice out, but once we got there it was FREEZING! We took some bread to feed the ducks. We though Paiton would love that because she loves ducks and she loves to say "duckie", however once the ducks started swarming us for bread, she got scared and buried her head in me!

Then things took a turn for the worse when these two guys decided to start storming us for bread!
They would run at us and yell at us! Matt has a fear of geese as it is, and I was holding Paiton so we threw some bread at them and ran! I bet it was quite the sight.
I tried to get a picture with Paiton but it was so windy. I have 4 pictures that all look like this:
Then we headed over to the toys to play!
Daddy stopped and got some fun in too...Um yeah...
Then it was Paiton's turn! She loves swings so we did that first!

Then it was off to the slide, which she also loves!
Such a good stander, she'll stand all day, we just can't get her to take a step!

Apparently we wore her out, during dinner she decided to try and strip down out of exhaustion! :)

I am telling you, with Matt and I as parent's our children are bound to be bookworms! Paiton LOVES her books. They are her favorite thing to look at it. She will point at things in the pictures, and when she is done looking at it herself she'll want us to read it to her.
So cute.

I haven't updated in almost a week! So unlike me! I have to think back that far and remember what has gone on!
~PLAYDATE WITH GRANDMA AND GRANDPA~
Last week we went and played with Grandma and Grandpa, which we like to do! Paiton gets to see them and play with all their toys, and I get to play games with Grandma! Paiton made Grandma happy when she started calling her "May-ma", it was very cute!
Now that Paiton is so "big" she doesn't need to sit in the seat of her piano at Gma's and Gpa's! She can stand and play with the toys!
She was cracking herself up by sticking this card box on her hand and waving it around!
Paiton likes to be in on the action so we took turns holding her while we played!
~SILLY HOMELESS CHILD~
These pictures crack me up. We were at my parent's house one night and Paiton for some reason insisted on having her shirt off. Well add that to her craze, wild-woman hair and what you have is a child that looks homeless! Her hair is getting to the point where it's long and starting to get curlier and it's just a mess!
~24 Premiere!~
On Sunday we had my family come over so that the boys could watch the season premiere of 24! Their favorite show! I made tortilla soup for everyone. Matt always gives the menu a funny name because it makes Spencer laugh, so in honor of 24 and Jack Bauer we had Terror-tilla soup, CTU cornbread, and Bauer brownies! Haha!

Paiton is so funny, she loves to say "Kotah" now. She calls both Keilah and Kotah "kotah" and still loves sneaking them food from her highchair. Silly girl. Of course I have to have some stories to share of our little angel! Last night she was fast asleep, and had been for at least an hour, laying on me on the couch. Matt turned off the TV and usually when that happens she'll say "Uh-oh!" and point to it. Well in her sleep when she heard the TV beep off she said "Uh-oh!" Never opened an eye, nothing, was still fast asleep! We were cracking up!
She also says "hot" now! It is so funny. If I try and give her something to eat and she sees me blow on it she will say "hot! hot!" It is very cute!
~THE BIG MOVE~
Well we made a decision last week to change up our house, and we acted on it this weekend! Right now we mainly only use the upstairs. The master bedroom is up there and that's where we all sleep and where Paiton takes her naps. My kitchen table was converted into an "office" for me and we ate dinner surrounded by piles of my files and work stuff! We decided it just wasn't working
So here's what we did: We moved out of the master room and into the guest room. Now the surf room downstairs is our room, which is right next to Paiton's room, so once she is big enough to go in her toddler bed that will be really nice! Had we stayed upstairs, there is no way I would have let her sleep downstairs on her own! No we are only like 4 feet away!
So now the master room upstairs has been converted into an office and a playroom. We moved the desk up there and set up my files so I can work upstairs. Then I bought some foam puzzle mats to put on the wood floor to make a play area for Paiton to play on while I am working. We also put the twin guest bed in there so that she can still take naps up here so I can see her while working (or updating the blog, hehe) and Spencer can sleep in here when he spends the night!
It worked out really well, so here are some pictures!

14 MONTHS!!
I can't believe that today my tiny baby girl is 14 months old! I remember when she was 14 minutes, 14 hours, 14 days, 14 weeks!! I believe that you REALLY don't know how fast time goes by until you have a baby.
What 14 month old girls named Paiton Lola like to do:
~ Greet EVERYONE she sees by saying "Hello!" and waving. That's why we call her the Walmart greeter!
~ Saying "Bye-bye!" and waving goodbye to anyone leaving.
~ Proclaiming "Uh-oh!" anytime she drops something, throws something, changes the channel on the TV, spits food at Mommy, spills her cup, or anything else that is out of the norm, whether it was actually an "uh-oh" or not!
~ Her list of words is expanding rapidly. I can't remember them all, but some of her newest are Keilah and Kotah. Although she usually prefers to call all 3 dogs Mymy! One of her favorite past times is still feeding the dogs from her high chair when she thinks we aren't looking!
~ She still loves her books and spends a lot of time each day looking at them. We don't think she's a genius for nothing!
~ Just today I felt her two bottom molars coming in! Two of her top molars are in and now it's the bottom's turn! What a big girl!
~ Paiton hates milk and refuses to drink it, even if I try to trick her by adding a little chocolate to it. She is definitely her mother's child.
~ She loves: olives, chocolate, pickles, bread, water, gold fish crackers, grilled cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, yogurt, and ice cream. She definitely knows what she likes and will often demand "Crackers!!" meaning she wants her goldfish, and sometimes that's all that will suffice!
~ She loves to point at all babies, and all kids for that matter, and say "Baby!"
~ When we change our TV over to play a DVD, for a second it has a blue screen. Paiton loves this blue screen and every single time she yells something out that Matt and I swear is "my blue screen!" Then she waits because the backdrop that comes up is a picture of her and then she says "Baby!" It's very funny. She likes to push the button on the remote to make it do that and say "Uh oh!" Then gets excited when "my blue screen" comes up!
~ In the last couple of days Paiton has started giving the best, juiciest kisses I have ever received! She is not a kissy baby, but the last couple of nights if I ask for kisses she will grab my face and lay one on me. It is absolutely my most favorite thing in all the world!
~ She isn't walking yet, but we are ok with that! She probably could if she wanted to, she stands on her own and walks around the kitchen with her hands on the wall, she just hasn't taken that step quite yet! Once she does I don't think she'll stop!
~ She gets so excited when Daddy gets home from work. As soon as she hears the door open she claps and says "Dada! Dada!" and waits for him to come upstairs. She is such a sweetie.
There is so much more that she does that amazes us every minute of every day, but for now that is what I can think of to share!
Now I have to brag about how good she was today! I had a few HOURS of meetings at work scheduled and Paiton had to come with me. She was sooo good. She played with the secretary for about 1 1/2 hours, then she came into my meeting the rest of the time and played nicely with some toys and ate some goldfish to keep her happy. She didn't make a peep (except happy peeps, like "talking" on her cell phone and saying hello to anyone who walked past the window). She was so great and she made my heart grow so much! I got so many compliments on her, as always! The secretary at my work even told us the other day that she is cuter than her grandson!! So funny! You know your child is perfect when you hear that!
We think Paiton has the cutest face and mouth ever. We love to watch her drink, her mouth gets so cute!
Tonight at dinner she was being stubborn about eating so Daddy had to do the airplane, sound effects and all, to get her to eat, which ended up cracking her up!

I got so many compliments on her, as always! The secretary at my work even told us the other day that she is cuter than her grandson!! So funny! You know your child is perfect when you hear that!
We think Paiton has the cutest face and mouth ever. We love to watch her drink, her mouth gets so cute!
Tonight at dinner she was being stubborn about eating so Daddy had to do the airplane, sound effects and all, to get her to eat, which ended up cracking her up!

Doing Better
Well we got a call from the doctor yesterday. Paiton didn't have a UTI. Which is good, because we want her to have as few as possible, preferably none! But also bad because we have no idea what was causing such a high fever! Last night she seemed to be feeling better, we even got some smiles! However, she slept terribly! She was crying in her sleep and moving every second.
This morning she woke up very sad for some reason. Maybe because she is a girl! She woke up crying and has been doing the lip and crying all morning for no reason. It is very sad. She insisted on eating her breakfast sitting on my lap instead of in her high chair. She is taking a nap now, so hopefully she was just tired, I don't want my baby to be sad!! :(

Fast asleep on the couch. Matt and I were talking about how she is sleeping like such a big girl now!
Just the positions she sleeps, it's not baby-like anymore!

Sicky Poo
We had quite the sick baby all weekend! No fun!
On Friday afternoon I had to go to some meetings, so Mom and Dad watched Paiton for me. While they had her she threw up a couple times, but was fine when I got home and didn't think much of it. That night I spent the night at Mom and Dad's because Spencer and Matt were playing games at our house. She wouldn't really eat much dinner, maybe only a few bites. Paiton started getting a fever around bedtime so I gave her some Motrin and we went to bed. At 4 am she woke me up because she was dry heaving, trying to throw up again. It was so sad, she was crying and scared and I don't think she knew what was going on. She couldn't go back to sleep so I took her downstairs and we watched TV and snuggled. She feel back asleep around 6, then was back up at 8 with her fever. I had given her some more medicine around 5am and it wasn't time for her to have more yet. I started getting a little worried so I took her temperature and it was 104.7. I called her doctor's office and lucked out, even though it was Saturday, they were open having a clinic for sick kids. Mom and I took her in. Now that we know that Paiton has the kidney reflux, anytime she gets a high fever we have to worry that it's a UTI or that it's possibly a kidney infection, so we can't really mess around with her fevers.
When we got there Dr. Zieba said she was going to look for any other reason for the fever at all so that they wouldn't have to test her urine, because that would mean a catheter. She checked her ears, mouth, throat, everything, and they all looked fine. She decided we needed to do a catheter and test her urine. UGH! :( So we took Paiton to the treatment room and I tried to comfort her during it. The stupid nurse missed getting the cath in the first couple of times and Paiton was screaming and crying and shaking really bad. It was so sad. It took everything in me not to bawl with her, but I didn't want to scare her.
They finally got it in, but could hardly get any urine out. They only got enough for a culture, not a dip. This means that on Monday (today) I will be getting a call letting me know what grew on the culture and if she did in fact have a UTI or not. They went ahead and started her on an anitbiotic for it since her fever was so high and it was the weekend. Mom and I went to Target and got her medicine, some Pedialyte, and some more Tylenol and Motrin. I took her home and got her situated and asleep for a nap.
Then things took a turn for the worse! At about 4 pm I touched her and noticed she was literally burning up. I took her temp and it was 106.1!!! I about threw up! I immediately called the doctor's office and talked to the on call nurse. She got really worried and patched me through to the on call doctor. She had me take off all of Paiton's clothes and rub her down with a cold wash cloth. I took her temperature 30 minutes later and it was down to 103.4. The doctor said if it got that high again she needs to go to the ER. Luckily it didn't. She went to bed with a fever of 104 and I got up every 3 hours to give her Tylenol and Motrin. (Keep in mind, these fevers were WITH constant Tylenol and Motrin! Very scary!)
Sunday morning she seemed happier and her fever was down to 99.1. She even played with her toys a bit. That afternoon her fever started going back up and was again 104 when it was time for bed. I again set my alarm for every 3 hours and gave her medicine throughout the night. She slept great, she didn't wake up once! She woke up this morning around 8:45 and she doesn't feel hot at all. She is still not too interested in eating, but I did get her to eat a granola bar, she never passes those up! Hopefully we are done with the fever and poor baby starts feeling better. It is very sad and very scary when they are sick and don't want to do anything! Of course, everyone enjoyed getting loves since all she wanted was to be held, but it breaks my heart!
