Sleep Doctor

Today Paiton had her sleep doctor appointment. Matt left school because he wanted to be there as well. The doctor was really and talked to us for an hour. She asked lots of questions about my pregnancy with Paiton, her birth, and her sleep history from when she was born until now.

We talked about what happens at night and how Paiton sleeps and we filled her in on everything. She said that she definitely thinks they are night terrors but that Paiton is having way too many of them a night. After lots of talking she really thinks Paiton probably needs a sleep study done. They are really expensive and I have to check and see if our insurance will cover it. Also since Paiton already has such a fear of doctors from her countless catheters, we are a little hesitant to stress her out even more by covering her in stickers and wires and then expecting her to sleep! So basically the doctor said that she thinks that if we wanted to wait a few weeks before doing the sleep study it probably won't hurt anything. So what we are going to do is transfer her from her toddler bed to a twin bed (so that she has more room and maybe won't wake herself up when she's flailing during a night terror by smacking herself on the toddler bed railings), and see how it goes. She has an appointment set up for the end of April, and if there is no improvement, we will be rushing to do a sleep study before Quinn gets here.

So we didn't learn much other than that they are definitely sleep terrors, and not typical ones! The doctor said that in the study they would be making sure she isn't having seizures and isn't having breathing problems causing all the trouble. More likely it might be something like large tonsils that cause her to have trouble breathing and staying asleep. If everything is normal, she might put Paiton on some sleep medicine to help her get into a deep sleep and possibly prevent the night terrors. So we won't know anything for a few weeks, but cross your fingers!

Yesterday was our last day of working the concession stands at Matt's school. It was a tournament, so we had to work from 3-9! It was a loooong time to be trapped in the little concession stand room, but Paiton did GREAT and was so helpful giving candy to the kids! She filled up Backpack with toys and books to play with and looked so cute wearing it!

At one point Paiton was tired and so I put her in the backpack but that didn't last long. I was hoping it would even out my weight and help my back a little, but it made bending over even more impossible and Paiton wanted down about 10 minutes into it when she realized that she couldn't pass things out from back there! (And don't worry {Dad} - she is laughing in this picture, she thought she was pretty hilarious!)

So in case you're wondering, being 7 months pregnant and having a 2 year old on your back is actually not helpful for back pain! ;)

Tomorrow I hit 30 weeks pregnant - wow! Be prepared to see a picture of this big belly!
